Summer Makeup Routine

By |July 25th, 2018|

Easy Drugstore Summer Makeup Routine

Summer means enjoying more time with friends and family doing all the fun things you love. But let’s face it, we all want to look somewhat put-together while we’re out in the sun, right? What if you can bolt out the door and have more time for all that summer fun while looking fresh all day? As a bonus, you can do it on a budget! No fancy skills needed, no expensive products required, and in no time at all!

Moisturize

image15

It’s always important to moisturize your skin before makeup application. An affordable, non-sticky feeling moisturizer pick is one from Cerave. It has ceramides that replenish the natural lipids that are lost from exposure to harsh environmental factors and Hyaluronic acid that helps retain the skin’s natural moisture. It’s lightweight and sinks right into the skin without leaving a sticky feeling. Perfect for the summer heat!

Featured Product: Cerave Daily Moisturizing Lotion

Sunscreen

image10

Wear sunscreen! We’ll never get tired of emphasizing this part. Neutrogena makes the most lightweight sunscreen without leaving that dreaded white cast, so there’s no excuse to skip this part.

Featured Product: Neutrogena UltraSheer Dry-Touch Sunblock Broad Spectrum SPF 55

BB Cream or Tinted Moisturizer

Even out your skin tone and cover some minor imperfections with either a BB cream or a tinted moisturizer. Here are some affordable options for you!

image14

Maybelline’s Dream Fresh BB Cream offers sheer coverage with SPF 30. If all you need is just to even out your skin tone and some added skincare benefits, this is the product for you!

Featured Product: Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream 8-In-1 Skin Perfector

image20

A travel-friendly option is one from Physicians Formula. If you don’t want to lug around a separate moisturizer and face sunscreen, this product will keep you moisturized, protected from the sun and even out your complexion all in one go! And did I mention that it‘s waterproof? The mind is blown!

Featured Product: Physicians Formula Organic Wear 100% Natural Origin Work It Marathonista SPF 40 Tinted Moisturizer

image18

Need more coverage? LA Girl’s BB cream will do the job without emptying your pockets! It provides medium coverage, and its HD formula keeps your skin looking flawless for summer photos!

Featured Product: LA Girl Pro BB Cream HD

Concealer

Untitled-1

Another trick is to just use concealer since you’re most likely to conceal any dark under-eye circles or skin blemishes anyway. So why not use it to even out your skin tone too, right? Talk about packing light! Our picks are from Maybelline and one from Catrice. The Maybelline Fit Me Concealer gives you that natural finish with amazing coverage! Perfect for those who have dry skin. We’re including the one from Catrice as a waterproof option and as a great product for hiding those dreaded under-eye circles. While it offers one of the best coverage across any concealers, both drugstore and high-end, the downside is its very limited shade range. Ehem, calling out Catrice – more shades, please!

Featured Product: Maybelline Fit Me Concealer and Catrice Liquid Camouflage Concealer

Powder

Untitled-2

Dry skin or not, the summer heat is nobody’s friend. Maybelline’s loose setting powder will give you that airbrushed effect without any cakiness. Let’s be honest, Maybelline’s been killing it lately being comparable if not better than high-end brands! Not a fan of loose powder? Catrice’s powder compact will give you that mattified look without breaking the bank! And another hooray for Catrice because guess what, it’s waterproof too!

Featured Product: Maybelline Fit Me Loose Finishing Powder and Catrice Prime & Fine Waterproof Mattifying Powder

Bronzer

Untitled-3

Bring back some of the colors in your face with a light dusting of bronzer with the most coveted Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer! It has a light version for the fairest of the fair, plus a fresh tropical scent that will transport you back to your summer vacay even after it’s over. A cheaper pick is one from Wet n’ Wild. Sure, it’s marketed as a contour palette, but the one in the shade Dulce de Leche is just bomb for bronzing up the skin!

Featured Product: Physicians Formula Murumuru Butter Bronzer and Wet n’ Wild MegaGlo Contouring Palette

Blush

Untitled-4

There’s nothing better like a healthy flush in your cheeks! We have a satin option from Essence – truly affordable without sacrificing quality! This cutesy little thing of blush gives you that fresh summer glow with a hint of natural color. For a matte option, LA Girl is your top pick with a wide range of shades to choose from too!

Featured Product: Essence Satin Touch Blush and LA Girl Just Blushing Powder

Highlight

Untitled-5

Take advantage of the summer to display a natural or even a blinding glow! After all, there’s nothing wrong with a little sparkle – or a crapload, whichever you prefer. Highlight the high points of your cheeks, your temples, the bridge of the nose and your cupid’s bow for that lovely glow. If you’re wearing something that exposes your shoulders and collarbones, put a little glow on them too! Go for Essence Pure Nude Highlighter or LA Girl’s highlighting stick for a subtle glow. A more mid-range option is one from Milani. It could take you from natural to “Woah!” without emphasizing textured skin. Now if you want a blinding highlight, go for Maybelline’s Master Chrome Metallic Highlighter or Colour pops Supershock highlighters. Can you tell that we love highlighters?

Featured Product: Essence Pure Nude Highlighter, LA Girl Highlight Contour Stick, Milani Strobelight Instant Glow Powder, Maybelline Master Chrome Metallic Highlighter and Colourpop Supershock Highlighter

Setting Spray

image19

Stay confident that your fresh makeup look is not ruined 5 minutes after stepping out the door with a trusty setting spray. We would recommend this step after applying your powder products. After all, these are the ones that you’d actually want to set. Using a setting spray also helps meld everything together to give off a more natural effect after you’re finished with your makeup. Milani’s setting spray is one of the most trusted setting sprays at the drugstore that will actually make your makeup stay put all day!

Featured Product: Milani Make It Last Setting Spray

Brows

Untitled-6

Frame your face with a budge-proof brow product that will last through heat, sweat and even swimming! Not everyone has an “actual” hefty amount of brow hairs, so for filling in any sparse areas, this skinny brow pencil from NYX is your best pick. Its budge-proof formula comes in a wide shade range, so stop wasting your hard-earned cash on more expensive skinny brow pencils! For those blessed ones who just want to have their brows stay in place (cause they already have actual brow hairs), we have an option for you too. Essence has a tinted brow mascara that will have your brows sitting in place without that crunchy feel that other brow mascaras might give you.

Featured Product: NYX Micro Brow Pencil and Essence Make Me Eyebrow Gel Mascara

Lashes

Untitled-7

You can actually skip this step, but if you’re not comfortable going out “without any lashes on”, we have recommendations for you too. A waterproof mascara from Covergirl has been around for years for a reason. It’s definitely budge-proof! But if you’re not willing to deal with removing waterproof mascara at the end of the day, a washable option from L’Oreal is a top pick too. Both will give you the blackest black lashes without going over your budget.

Featured Product: Covergirl Clump Crusher by Lashblast Water Resistant Mascara and L’Oreal Voluminous Lash Paradise Mascara

Lips

image7

Don’t forget to give your lips a pop of color! Here’s a trick, take some of your favorite long-wearing liquid lipstick and dab some on using your fingertip. Spread a thin, thin layer all over your lips just to give it a nice wash of color. Voilà! A tinted lip effect that will last you through meals and swimming! Our top pick? Maybelline’s Superstay Matte Ink lippies. A non-drying, budge-proof formula that’s a definite steal for its quality and staying power! It has a wide range of shades, from nude to vampy, plus an amazing shade of orange that’s perfect for the summer months. You’re welcome!

Featured Product: Maybelline Superstay Matte Ink Lip Color

There you go. Enjoy the rest of the summer with this easy and affordable makeup routine!

Hydrate

image10

Normalize

image2

DPHUE Apple Cider Vinegar Leave-In Hair Therapy

You’ve probably seen the apple cider vinegar trick all over Instagram and Pinterest. Well, it’s true! A hair rinse with apple cider vinegar helps normalize the pH of hair that’s been exposed to chemical processing. It also conditions strands with amino acids, detangles knots, and gives your hair tons of shine. This product is also spiked with argan oil, aloe vera and macadamia oil, keeping your hair moisturized too.

Moisturize

image11

L’Oreal Paris Advanced Haircare Extraordinary Oil Transforming Oil-in-Cream

It’s no secret that summer causes extremely dry hair. This drugstore conditioner is heaven-sent! It’s packed with just about every moisturizing ingredient that you could ask for: coconut oil, argan oil, wheat protein, soybean oil, sunflower oil. You’ll definitely see a big difference after just one use!

Refresh

image8

Batiste Dry Shampoo

Keep a bottle of dry shampoo handy for those days when you don’t feel like washing your hair while being free from that gunky greasy feeling. Batiste Dry Shampoo revitalizes hair, leaving it feeling clean and smelling fresh, so your style lasts longer between washes. Plus, you have a lot of scents to choose from!

Prevent

image6

OGX Quenched + Sea Mineral Moisture Shimmering Weightless Moisture Replenisher

Dry, brittle hair is very prone to breakage. This drugstore pick has conditioners, like glycerin and algae extract, to moisturize brittle ends and prevent future breakage.

Detangle

image1

Pantene Pro-V Repair Light Detangler

Summer is prime time for tangles. Use this light formula to soften knots, reduce frizz, and boost hair’s moisture levels.

Brush

image7

Wet Brush

You might believe that a Wet Brush wouldn’t do more than what your regular detangling comb will do for your hair. The Wet Brush has unique flexible bristles that run effortlessly through hair, detangling without pulling or tugging.

Condition

image9

Ouai Treatment Mask

This product is making a serious buzz on Instagram for a reason. A thick but not overly dense conditioning mask that deeply hydrates hair and protects color. Tamarind-seed extract seals moisture into hair, keratin strengthens strands, and artichoke-leaf extract protects from UV rays, all-in-all makes the perfect conditioning mask for your parched hair!

Repair

image5

Olaplex Hair Perfector No. 3

An intensely reparative treatment, which softens and strengthens even the most fried, bleached, beat-up hair. Though the bottle calls for only a ten-minute application, those in the know leave it on for hours—sometimes even overnight—to get maximum benefits.

Preserve

image12

Christophe Robin Regenerating Plant Oil With Rare Prickly Pear Seed Oil

Preserve and protect your hair color while also conditioning, smoothing frizz, and boosting shine—all without weighing down hair. Although this hair product has an admittedly hefty price tag, it still saves you from the hassle and more expensive trip to the salon for an emergency session with your colorist. Apply it before and after you go in the water (chlorine or salt) to keep highlights from going green – yikes!

Protect

image3

Drybar Hot Toddy Heat & UV Protectant

Yes. UV protection is not just for your skin. It’s important to protect your hair against the harmful effects of UV rays too. This silky, lightweight cream protects against both UVA and UVB rays, as well as heat, to help prevent damage and color fading.

The Big Day

The Big Day! Tips for the day of moving into your new home

image5 Photo Credit: uhaul.com

Most of the tips you see about moving talks about packing. How to pack smart, packing hacks and all that good stuff. But what should you actually do to make the moving day itself a lot easier? Here are some useful tips for the big moving day.

image13

1. Don’t skimp on a dolly – The time that you save in getting a dolly on the day of the move doesn’t measure up to the added cost that you’re thinking twice about shelling out. Think about it, you’ll be able to easily stack lots of boxes in one trip saving you lots of time and back trouble.

image6

2. A little bribe goes a long way – Most people get friends or neighbors to help them move. If you have furniture or any other stuff that you’re planning to get rid of, tell all your friends, family or close neighbors that whoever helps you move gets first dibs on any of the things that you plan on getting rid of.

image3

3. Get a babysitter – If you have little kids, getting a babysitter to look after your kids will be one of the best decisions you’ll ever make. You’re going to be stressed and busy enough without adding in any crying or tantrums. Having someone to look after your kids will also prevent them from possibly getting hurt when the movers come in with the furniture or other blunt objects.

image12

4. Take photos of your old home – There’s always room for a little sentiment even on the big moving day. Years later, you’re going to appreciate being able to have photos to look at and reminisce all the memories that it brings back.

image9

5. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes – With all the back and forth business that you’ll endure during moving day, you’ll definitely want to wear comfortable clothes and shoes. Wear something with pockets so you don’t misplace any valuables like your wallet, car keys and your house keys. Wear comfortable but durable shoes so you don’t hurt your feet when you accidentally bump into furniture. We all know that it’s a definite possibility!

image1

6. Separate moving day essentials – Pack a separate bag or bin with all the moving day essentials that you can think of. Scissors, box cutters, garbage bags, water bottles, snacks, a change of clothes, cleaning supplies and hand towels. It’s a good idea to pack a first aid kit too.

image7

7. Pack a “carry on” for each member of the family – It could be a box or a bag with your essentials on it. Basically, it should be the box or bag that’s opened first when you arrive at the new place. Let’s face it, we’re all tired and kinda lazy after moving into the new place. Have three-days to a week’s worth of clothes in your carry on. It depends on how well you know yourself. Do you see yourself really, and unpacking your stuff in three days? If not, better add some more. Your carry on should also have your personal hygiene essentials like your toothbrush, small toiletries, whatever you need to get primped up. Don’t forget any necessary medication that you regularly take – and your phone charger too!

image4

8. Take photos of your new place before moving in – This is especially important if you’re renting the house. Before moving all of your furniture and boxes into your new home, make sure you take pictures of any pre-existing damages while it’s still empty. Property managers will usually have a move-in checklist for you to fill out, but you might miss things if they’re covered by boxes and couches.

image14

9. Protect your mattresses – Mattresses are very hard to clean – but bedsheets can easily be laundered, so if you’re worried about your mattresses getting dirty during the move, just put a fitted sheet over each side. You’re welcome!

image8

10. Use boxes with handles – Lifting and carrying boxes are easier if the boxes have handles on them. If your boxes don’t have handles on them, cut out handles on each side with a box cutter. Voila! DIY handles!

image2

11. Stay hydrated – Put water bottles in the fridge as soon as you get to your new house. Moving is pretty much an all-day event so you’ll want to stay hydrated, and moving helpers will be grateful for the cold water breaks.

image10

12. Label each boxes appropriately – You can either write on the box itself or stick a masking tape on each of the boxes. See, it’s not enough to just put “Clothes #1” on your label. To make unpacking a lot easier, make it a point to not only write down what’s on the box but to write down which location of the new house that particular box should go into. So “Clothes #1” becomes “Clothes #1 – Master Bedroom”. This way, you have the right boxes are in the right rooms, so you won’t have to go back and forth to get your box of clothes from the kitchen all the way up to your bedroom. It’s exercise, sure, but who needs all that stress?

image11

13. Keep a fun atmosphere – Play some music or a whole season of your favorite sitcom – F.R.I.E.N.D.S anyone? A light and fun atmosphere keep everybody’s spirits up and the whole moving process less stressful. Make sure to take short rest breaks for food and water too.

Why we love sports

By |July 13th, 2018|

For the Love of Balls and Dip

sportsBlog1

Why we love sports

Sports are truly fascinating. You don’t necessarily have to be an expert to play a part in the tradition that is slacking on a sofa yelling stuff at the TV. But really, it is a wonder how game nights bring friends and families together. Why do people love sports? Is it mostly because of the macho nature of it? The excitement brought about by amazing plays executed with great brute and agility? I watch as people who normally have trouble remembering where they put their keys instantly become historians who remember who scored what a decade ago. It’s a wonder how people you can barely start a decent conversation with becoming very passionate sports analysts while I’m just there eating the rest of the dip.

From what I understand, what we’re supposed to gain in playing sports as kids are healthy competition, understanding true sportsmanship, not to mention the serious workout that we get from it. I guess you could throw in the bitter realization that you’re a very uncoordinated kid with things like volleyball but can crochet the heck out of a skein of yarn in a snap. Anyway, as an adult, I rarely see all that kumbaya stuff. Of course, this is not a perfect world, people who engage in competitive sports are not there to lose, so I guess I kinda get it. So how do you get that perfect balance and teach a kid the importance of being a good sport while instilling the great joy found in winning something all in one go? I’m still trying to paint that scenario in my head myself. Maybe I’ll tell you when I get there.

Saving Money

By |July 11th, 2018|

Making these small changes can actually help you save money faster than you think

savingMoney1

It’s always possible to turn your financial life around. All it takes is making small changes to get things moving in your favor financially. Learn self-control, make wise decisions and start saving money today! Here are some tips to help you get started.

1. Don’t give in to the power of marketing

One big way to save money is to drastically cut down on the amount of television and YouTube videos that you watch. You’ll notice that when you constantly expose yourself to ads and sponsored content, you’re at high risk of eventually giving in to the temptation of making more unwanted and unnecessary purchases. That’s the power of marketing. Less exposure to these will result in a lower electric bill (and perhaps a lower cable or internet bill if you downgrade your subscription), a huge cut-back on unnecessary purchases and more time to focus on other things in life — such as a side business — and so on.

2. DIY Gifts

If you want to save money while also giving generously, creating your own homemade gifts is one way to accomplish both goals. It’s the thought that counts anyway. Make mason jar sewing kits for your girlfriends, knit or crochet cute hats for their babies, mix up a mean barbecue rub for your guy friends, the list goes on!

3. Wait 30 Days

Avoiding instant gratification is one of the biggest game changers in saving money and waiting 30 days to decide on a purchase is an excellent way to implement that rule. You’ll find that after a month or maybe within a month, the urge to buy something has already passed. This is especially true for bigger but still unreasonable purchases. If you’re on the fence about a purchase anyway, waiting a while can give you a better perspective on whether it’s truly worth the money.

4. Make a list and stick to it

Make a list before you shop. This is most commonly applicable when going to the grocery. When you go rogue and shop without a list, that is when you typically end up making impulse buys – stuff that you don’t actually need and will eventually go to waste.

5. Clean out your closets

Go through your closets and weed out stuff that you haven’t used in the past year. You can have a yard sale with the things that you find or sell them on eBay or Facebook buy and sell groups. You can also take them to a consignment shop, or even donate it for the tax deduction. You’ll have instantly decluttered a major portion of your home while turning in some profit.

Save yourself from money problems too! Need extra cash? Call 1(844)651-5144 and get funded TODAY! Only from the best in car title loan, Sabre Lending, LLC.

First aid

By |July 3rd, 2018|

What should you include in your first-aid kit: A complete guide to being prepared in medical emergencies

firstAidkit
A well-stocked first-aid kit can help you respond effectively to common injuries and emergencies. It is advisable to keep at least one first-aid kit in your home and one in your car. Store them in someplace where it’s easy to get and is out of reach of young children. It’s also important to make sure that children who are old enough to understand the purpose of a first-aid kit know where they’re stored.

While there are assembled first-aid kits at many drugstores, it’s still best to customize your kit based on your activities and needs. Here’s a list of what you can include in your first-aid kit:

Basic Supplies

  1. Adhesive tape
  2. Elastic wrap bandages
  3. Bandage strips and “butterfly” bandages in assorted sizes
  4. Non-stick sterile bandages and roller gauze in assorted sizes
  5. Eyeshield or pad
  6. Triangular bandage
  7. Aluminum finger splint
  8. Instant cold packs
  9. Cotton balls and cotton-tipped swabs
  10. Disposable latex gloves
  11. Duct tape
  12. Petroleum jelly
  13. Water-based lubricant, i.e. K-Y Jelly bags
  14.  Plastic bags, assorted sizes
  15. Safety pins in assorted sizes
  16. Scissors and tweezers
  17. Soap or hand sanitizer
  18. Antibiotic ointment
  19. Antiseptic solution and towelettes
  20. Eyewash solution
  21. Thermometer
  22. A turkey baster for flushing wounds
  23. Breathing barrier
  24. Sterile water for flushing wounds
  25. Syringe, medicine cup or spoon
  26. First-aid manual

Medications

  1. Aloe vera gel for soothing burns and sunburns
  2. Calamine lotion
  3. Anti-diarrhea medication
  4. Laxative
  5. Syrup of Ipecac
  6. Antacids
  7. Antihistamine
  8. Pain relievers, i.e. Tylenol, ibuprofen, i.e. Advil and aspirin (remember to never give aspirin to children unless prescribed by a doctor)
  9. Hydrocortisone cream or Calendula cream
  10. Cough and cold medications
  11. Personal medications that don’t need refrigeration, i.e. antacids
  12. Epi-Pen for allergic reactions, if prescribed by your doctor

Emergency Items

  1. Emergency phone numbers, including contact information for your family doctor and pediatrician, local emergency services, emergency road service providers, and the poison helpline. US: 800-222-1222
  2. Medical consent forms for each family member
  3. Medical history forms for each family member. Make sure to include a list of food and drug allergies.
  4. Small, waterproof flashlight or headlamp and extra batteries.
  5. A hand-crank flashlight
  6. Waterproof matches
  7. A small notepad and pencil
  8. Emergency space blanket
  9. Cell phone with solar charger
  10. Sunscreen
  11. Water purification tablets, i.e. Aquatabs
  12. Insect repellant
  13. Pocket knife
  14. Whistles

Important Reminder

Check your first-aid kits regularly to be sure the flashlight batteries work and to replace supplies that have expired or been used up.

Another important consideration is taking a first-aid course through the American Red Cross. Maybe make it a family activity, so your children will also be more comfortable with the idea of giving and receiving first-aid treatment. The American Red Cross offers a number of helpful resources, including classes designed to help children understand and use first-aid techniques. Contact your local chapter for information on classes.

Summer Essentials

Summer Essentials: Top 7 items you need to endure and enjoy the summer heat!

image1

A summer trip isn’t all fun and games. It’s important to make sure that you keep yourself safe from the harmful effects of the sun – not to mention the heat while you have fun to spend time with friends and family. While some of these items are known to be staples for summer, there might still be some key points that you’re missing out on so read on.

Sunscreen

When choosing a sunscreen, opt for one with “broad spectrum” protection. Sunscreen with this label will protect you against both UVA and UVB rays.

While all sunscreen products will protect you against UVB rays, which mainly causes sunburns and skin cancers, not all sunscreen products offer protection against UVA rays – which also contribute to skin cancers AND premature aging. Here are other key things that you should remember about sunscreen:

  • SPF – Choose a sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher. This number plays an important role in choosing the right sunscreen as it indicates the level of protection that the sunscreen provides against UVB rays. The higher the number, the more protection you have against the harmful effects of the sun.
  • Water Resistant -Don’t mistake the label “water resistant” for “waterproof”. Remember that no sunscreen products are waterproof nor are they sweatproof. For sunscreen labels that have “water resistant” on it, check it further for any specification about how long it will typically last in the skin after swimming or sweating.
  • Reapplication -The key to using sunscreen is reapplication. It’s not a one-time thing. See to it that you reapply sunscreen products every 2 hours and even more often if you are swimming or sweating.

Lip Balm with SPF

Our lips are very prone to losing moisture and even more prone to sun damage. Using regular lip balms or shiny lip gloss will not work in your favor if you use them while you’re out in the sun – especially lip gloss. They absorb sunlight and increase the risk of getting a sunburn on your lips. Ouch!
You’ll find that most lip balms with SPF are only labeled SPF 15. But nowadays, there are brands that offer lip balms with higher SPF. Here are a couple of suggestions:

Sunglasses

Protect your eyes from the harmful effects of the sun with sunglasses that block at least 99% of the sun. Here are some suggested brands of sunglasses with sun protection.

Sun Hat

Protect your scalp and the high points of your face with a wide-brimmed hat. Yes, your scalp is skin too. Sun hats and sunglasses also prevent squinting of the eyes when exposed to bright sunlight which contributes to developing crow’s feet around the eyes.

Aloe Vera Gel

Nothing soothes sunburns better than an aloe vera gel. They’re surprisingly inexpensive, cooling, refreshing, and they sink into the skin almost immediately. So keep your favorite brand of aloe vera soothing gel handy for your summer trips.

Lightweight Jacket

Summer vacations and the beach usually go hand in hand. Be ready with a lightweight jacket, like a hoodie or a denim jacket in case you stay out by the beach until night time as it gets much colder. Protect yourself from the cold breeze while enjoying drinks by the bonfire.

Reusable Water Bottle

Staying hydrated is key when you’re out in the sun. Sugary drinks, while refreshing when they’re ice cold, will leave you feeling a lot more parched after a while. So it’s still best to stick to the OG thirst quencher Help the environment by keeping a reusable water bottle handy so you don’t contribute more waste and garbage.

There you have it! Enjoy the rest of the summer with your loved ones while keeping yourself and everyone safe from the harmful effects of the sun!
